Understanding Vestibular Physiotherapy

Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy (VRT) is a specialized form of therapy intended to alleviate problems caused by vestibular disorders and concussions, primarily vertigo and dizziness, gaze instability, and/or imbalance and falls.

With a vestibular disorder, we see damage to our vestibular system, resulting in reduced function and subsequent symptoms. VRT works by challenging our other systems (vision and somatosensory - body sense) to compensate and substitute for the deficient vestibular system. Depending on your vestibular-related problems, there are four principal methods to therapy:

Habituation | Gaze Stabilization | Balance Training | Canalith Repositioning Maneuvers

By working with these methods, we can reduce the impact of your vestibular deficit, resulting in a reduction or complete resolution of your symptoms.

At Healing Vertigo, we work with you one to one to create your customized exercise-based program, developed from our clinical assessment together. All testing and treatment sessions are done virtually through Zoom for Healthcare, which is HIPPA PIPEDA, and PHIPA compliant, ensuring your data remains private and safe.

Understanding Telehealth

The development of telehealth has improved access to specialized healthcare worldwide. Through virtual platforms, we are able to complete full assessments and treatment programs with you while you stay in the comfort of your own home.

With Telehealth, steps have been taken to transition all aspects of our in-person physiotherapy assessment and treatment into the virtual platform, with zero compromise in the quality and effectiveness you will receive as a patient. We have partnered with Embodia to provide you a safe and secure telehealth experience, using Zoom for Healthcare which are HIPAA, PIPEDA, and PHIPA compliant, so you know your data remains private at all times. Embodia has also maximized the patient-practitioner communication experience, with online chat messaging, virtual exercise tracking, and online appointment scheduling which can all be done from your device or laptop.
