Is my Dizziness BPPV?

Author: Cheryl Wylie, PT

You wake up one morning and suddenly your head is spinning and it feels like you are going to fall over.

Sound familiar? What's going on?

Could this be BPPV?

Dizziness and vertigo can be caused by a variety of things, anywhere from improper medication usage, blood pressure issues, and even jaw problems! So how do you know if your dizziness is due to BPPV?

I recommend you ask yourself these 4 simple questions:

  1. Does look up increase my dizziness?

  2. Do quick movements of my head increase my dizziness?

  3. Does turning over in bed increased by dizziness?

  4. Does bending over increase my dizziness?

What are you answers?

If you answered YES to any one of these questions, there is a good chance your dizziness is due to BPPV.

And if you answered YES to ALL the questions - well then there is a very strong chance BPPV is what you are dealing with!

So now what? Well you have two great options!

  1. Connect with a Vestibular Physiotherapist in your region to get it treated ASAP. If you are in Ontario - well then you're in luck as we can help you! And if not - head here to find a therapist in your hometown.

  2. Use the Healing Vertigo App! This vertigo treatment app is designed to help you treat BPPV from your home. It's built by a vestibular therapist who guides you through how to test for BPPV, determine which type (yes there are types!) of BPPV you have, and then shows you the exact maneuver you need to treat it. Easy as that!

What ever option you choose, you will in good hands.
